Save the date! Eunice Trotter, director of Indiana Landmarks' Black Heritage Preservation Program, is this year's speaker for the Randall and Amy Shepard Lecture in partnership with the Vanderburgh Community Foundation and Vanderburgh County Historical Society!

About Our Speaker:  Eunice Trotter is the former owner of The Indianapolis Recorder. She was the first African American editor at The Indianapolis Star and held editing or reporting positions at several other newspapers, including The New York Post, Florida Today, the Palm Beach Post, Fort Wayne News Sentinel and the Lafayette Journal and Courier.

She holds an undergraduate journalism degree and an MBA. She has won numerous reporting and writing awards and in 2017 was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame. Her book, “Black in Indiana,” about a little-known state Supreme Court case ending slavery in Indiana, has received state and national first-place awards. She is an award-winning genealogist and historian.

She is now director of Indiana Landmarks’ Black Heritage Preservation Program. Her job and her passion are to uncover, document, and preserve Black heritage sites and history statewide.

This program has awarded over $700,000 in grants to churches, organizations and projects focused on preserving Black heritage sites and history throughout Indiana.

Nearly a dozen young people have received scholarships and paid internships. Her work has resulted in several significant Black heritage sites receiving state and national historic designation.
